- Hi
-
- I wish to write a voicemail application for OS/2 and could do with some
- book recommendations.
-
- First let me say a little about myself: I am a professional software engineer,
- and most of my work is done in C or C++ under UNIX (mostly Solaris, some HP/UX
- and AIX). I have written a couple of applications which use serial I/O under
- Solaris, but I have never written a modem application.
-
- I have been using OS/2 at home for >1 year and am _very_ pleased with it.
- However, I have been disappointed by the lack of voicemail software. There
- seems to be nothing for the chipset on my modem (Cirrus Logic). So I decided
- to learn something about OS/2 programming and write my own. If I am
- successful I may release the software as shareware at some point in the
- future.
-
- So I know about C++ and C programming, but nothing about OS/2 programming and
- programming (voice) modems. Can anyone recommend some books to get me started?
- Specifically, I am interested in:
-
- * a good modem programming book, voicemail examples would be nice!! (I am
- already tracking down the documentation, AT commands and programmers
- guide for my modem, so I am looking for a more general introduction to
- programming a modem).
-
- * a book for programmers who already know C and C++ and want to begin with
- OS/2. e.g., how do I write PM apps? Or -- I know about multithreading
- under Solaris, how does it work under OS/2?
-
- I plan to use the GNU C++ compiler/EMX; a book that comes with it on CD would
- be a nice bonus, otherwise I can download it myself.
-
- TIA,
